Course Structure
Stage 1 – Pre-Study (Upon Enrolment)
Students will gain immediate access to online pre-study resources covering:
- Licensing & Legislation
- Studio Health, Hygiene & Safety Protocols
- Studio Set-Up Requirements
- History of Tattooing
- Needle Theory
- Machine Mechanics & Maintenance
- Ink Theory & Pigment Safety
- Anatomy & Physiology (OfQual Level 3 unit)
- Blood Borne Pathogens Awareness & Certification
- Procreate Training & Stencil Design Guidance
📌 Outcome: Students must complete all pre-study modules before attending the academy.
Stage 2 – Case Studies & Portfolio Development (Months 1–9)
- Students continue tattoo practice on clients under supervision/mentorship
- 12 case studies required, including: Line Work, Shading, Colour Work
- Continued work on portfolio assignments
- Regular Zoom mentorship sessions for feedback and progress reviews
📌 Outcome: Development of a professional case study portfolio evidencing competency.
Stage 3 – Final Practical Assessment (Around Month 9)
Students return to the academy for an exam day under assessment conditions, with:
- Assessor present
- IQA (Internal Quality Assurer) present
- Possible EQA (External Quality Assurer) attendance
Assessments:
- Practical Tattoo Exam – Lining Piece
- Practical Tattoo Exam – Lining & Shading Piece
📌 Outcome:
- Successful students progress to final portfolio submission.
- Students not meeting pass criteria will be required to re-sit the practical exam(s).
Stage 4 – Final Portfolio Submission & Verification (Months 9–12)
- Completion and finalisation of full portfolio
- Submission for IQA verification (and EQA if required)
- Certification issued upon successful verification
